Announcements

Hello Wonderful Parents!!

As I type this, we are faced with only 28 school days left!  It’s hard to believe.  Really.  Actually, what makes it hard to believe is the fact that I feel I was just typing this letter to you as THIRD grade parents.

We have many events approaching.  Here are some dates to remember:

April 27- TNT Fun Nite K-5 @ 2800 Main Avenue South from 7 to 9.

May 1- Band/Ambassadors Spring Concert at 7

May 9- Muffins for Moms!

May 15- Softball Tournament at Lindenwood.  More info on that soon.

May 18- 5th Grade End-Year Field Trip to the newly remodeled Fort Abercrombie!  This will tie in the best way to our unit on the Civil War.  Exciting!  A sack lunch will be needed.  We will be spending the morning there and returning after lunch.  More info on that later as well.  For more information on this wonderful facility, visit http://history.nd.gov/historicsites/abercrombie/index.html

We will be doing activities from this website for social studies.

May 25th- Last Day of School

Another special announcement:  Hanna Persoon was chosen out of all participating North Dakota fifth graders as the winner for the noxious weed poster creating contest!  This was a mini-unit that we did for science back in December.  Hanna’s creation will be printed on t-shirts and given to each student in our class!  The NDDOA will also be coming into our classroom to do a special presentation to us!  I haven’t told the class yet, but I will at the end of today!  They are DYING to know!  Stop the spread of noxious weeds and animals!

Blessings,
Lisa

Geography Fair

Parents,
We are at the start of National Lutheran Schools Week!  It was a crazy day today, that's for sure!  Schedules for this week's crazy events were handed out last week, in the pile of Friday papers.

We are also collecting  spare change and other donations to support Pennies for Patients.  This is a cancer education program and fundraiser benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  We will be raising money in honor of student Heroes from MN, ND, and SD who are survivors of these cancers.  Ask your child to explain to you the logistics of copper and silver coins in the competition.  It's great fun!

The geography fair is this week and our class has started in-class presentations today!  On Thursday night, the soup/bread supper begins at 5:45.  Students need to be at their tables by 6:30 at the latest for their presentations, and awards will follow.

The sock hop is Friday from 7-9.  Hee-Haw!

Blessings,
Mrs. Sande

Merry Christmas!!

Dear Families,
Just a couple of updates:

Another awesome performance will be happening tonight at 7!  Please have your lovely city kids here by 6:30.  Thanks to Kim and Denise D. for taking on make-up duties so I was able to attend my daughters' band concert at Fargo North last night!

Since we will have students gone on alternating days next week, we have decided to split up our Christmas celebration.  On Tuesday, we will have our white elephant gift exchange, and on Wednesday we will have a silent reading time and movie in the afternoon (with treats, or course!).  Students are welcome to bring treats of their choice.  It will be a great week next week!

For the white elephant gift, have fun with your child!  Choose things that are no longer used around the house, but yet can still serve some sort of purpose.  Does that make sense?  No used toothbrushes or toilet plungers, sorry!  I have worked with senior high youth a lot and I have seen some of these!!  Also, wrapping a white elephant gift can be a fun and silly time, too!  Have fun!  We will do that exchange on Tuesday.

Also, since I love to cook and bake, I am sending home a super delicious and easy recipe to make with your child.  WARNING: they are highly addictive!!    Just be sure to supervise closely, since it calls for boiling butter and sugar and baking.  It can be a truly amazing and peaceful thing to cook with your child!

Looking ahead:
Christmas vacation, Dec. 22-Jan. 3

5-8 Ski trip is Jan. 13th.  More information will come out on that after we return!

AUCTION CLASS BASKET IS CHOCOLATE.  MMMMMM.

Students will be finding out their countries for the geography fair in January.  If that changes, I'll be sure to let you know immediately!

Blessings,

Lisa

December Is Almost Here!

Hello Parents!!

I have A LOT of announcements/reminders!  Here they are:

Our school will begin the Lil’ Shopper’s Shoppe beginning December 7th through the 9th.  You are familiar with this from years past, I’m sure!  It is a gift store where students can purchase “little treasures” for family and friends.  Look for more information to come home on this next week!

Our fifth grade class will be working on sending a care package to Kim Persoon’s brother (Hanna’s uncle), Scott, who is in Afghanistan.  I will be sending off the package to him before we leave for our break.  Since food items usually do not work, we will be sending pictures and cards (if you think of anything else, let me know!!)

God’s blessings to him and his family as he works hard and makes a great sacrifice to serve our country!

Our Christmas party will be December 21st.  Students will be drawing out of a hat the item they are responsible to bring for our Christmas party!  You will be hearing about that soon!  A WHITE ELEPHANT (I had explain what a white elephant gift is) gift exchange will also be done, in lieu of purchasing new things.  You may have to help your child with finding a white elephant gift and wrap it.  Fun!

Our school will have a mitten/hat tree that is located in the entryway of the school.  These will be going to new Americans.  Let’s help them adjust to a North Dakota winter!

Information on the musical:  Dec. 15, 16 – Christmas Musical 7:00 pm “It All Happened in the Country.” Fifth graders are “city people,” and church/nice attire will be their costume for this!  How exciting!

Please keep in mind that our class auction basket is CHOCOLATE.  Enough said.  Yummy.  Our class project is about halfway done!  It’s going to be absolutely wonderful!

Blessings,

Mrs. Sande
